Located on Glen Osmond road is a gem of a cafe that was recently introduced to me by a friend (who I am very grateful for if not I would have never found Bar 9). Bar 9 takes quality to a new level by its level of commitment to producing both food and drinks that are more than up to standard.

The interior of the cafe is a mix of eclectic furniture, choice retro paintings and quirky little nuances that help add to Bar 9's hipster atmosphere. The place seems organic and fresh. The waiting staff are friendly but not in that fake, in-your-face attitude (which I really don't care for).

It's one of the bigger cafes I've ever been to; there seem to be three sections. One is the main area, another is a small section that is perfect for people who are just ordering coffee and the last has a bunch of comfy sofas for people to relax on or to play really old-school video games.

Bar 9 serves organic and freshly squeezed orange and apple juices. I loved that there were no preservatives or artificial ingredients added because you can really taste the essence of the fruits in the juice.

I'm not a coffee drinker myself but I can attest that the smell of the brew was enough that I wanted to try out one coffee. I shared a mocha with my friend and it was almost enough to make me a coffee convert; the blend of the chocolate and coffee were immaculate and it was really smooth going down.

The food offered at Bar 9 is also something to rave about. I tried the Australian blue swimmer crab and it was fresh and delightful.

The crab was presented atop fluffy scrambled eggs and fresh toast. It was accompanied by Thai green curry. I liked the crab but I found that the curry wasn't as rich or as flavourful as I would've liked it. I eat a lot of curry and I'm nitpicky over it so I was not that enthusiastic about the taste of the curry sauce nor of the quantity (they seemed a little stingy with dishing out the curry sauce). But overall I still enjoyed the meal.

My friend got the Runcimans breakfast which consists of bacon, eggs, tomato and Swiss brown mushroom on toast. Between bites, she was able to tell me that she thoroughly enjoyed her meal as it was fresh and cooked perfectly.

Last but not least, we also ordered the mushroom ragu. This is a dish of creamy truffled mushrooms served on toast with poached eggs and finished with truffled honey. It is every bit good and mouth-watering as its description. These are honestly the best mushrooms I have ever had. Perhaps it is because they are truffled or maybe it's the honey dressing but these mushrooms taste amazing. Everyone at my table tried some and everybody's eyes widened at first taste because it was just that good. Definitely the best meal of the day and the main reason for me to come back to Bar 9.

The cafe opens from 7.30 am and closes at 4 pm on weekdays and from 8.30 am to 2 pm on weekends so there is ample opportunity to visit Bar 9. Just be mindful that the kitchen closes at 2 pm but you're free to hang around and order more coffee after that. Maybe kick back with some old school video games like Pac Man on the ancient console located in Bar 9's sofa section.
