I had never had a raspberry and white chocolate ganache muffin, nor a peach with custard muffin from a local bakery. Banjos in Main Street Mornington seems to have updated its pies and added some gourmet style bakery products that really add a touch of gourmet to the eating experience.
The staff have taken on a professional demeanour that creates a whole new experience. Add these small changes together and you have a really interesting outcome. You might say, they have not lost the common touch.
You see, I wouldn't normally write about a local bakery. There are a couple of gourmet bakeries that I love, which are aimed at the gourmet market, yet this one is not generally aimed at that market and the improvements are really, really worth noting.
The pies are good, the pastries are good. There are well priced sandwiches and rolls too. The staff, smiling and friendly. The prices are bakery prices. Then you have those little extra gourmet products that add affordable luxury eating to the local bakery.
Banjos Tasmanian Bakery Cafe is the bakery's full name and is part of a bakery franchise that began in Tasmania and has 36 stores in Australia. The bakery's objective is to serve their wholesome food range "within a warm, authentic Tasmanian inspired environment," with each store still maintaining a local focus. They have managed to do this in Mornington well.
