Banjo Paterson Park is one of those gems with so much to offer. It is secluded but not out of reach from the main road in Gladesville, and overlooks a beautiful bay area called Looking Glass Bay on Parramatta River.
As you enter Punt Road, you will approach a beautiful sandstone cottage, called the Banjo Paterson Cottage Restaurant, a popular wedding venue. You can see why it would be a favourite spot amongst engaged couples. The cottage was once the Rockend Cottage, a historic nineteen century landmark with a story behind its beautiful facade. A modern day wedding set in a historic building amidst gorgeous surroundings is every bride to be's dream come true!
On my visit to Banjo Paterson Park at around dusk time one weekend, I had the pleasure of witnessing a bridal party taking pictures all while basking in the golden hues of sunset. It was truly a sight to behold.
There is a small jetty at the water's edge which makes for great shots. Sitting on a bench with the view of the bay sprawled out before me and watching the sun go down is an experience I'll never take for granted. I felt so mesmerised by the colours of the sky and the shapes of the clouds that I could not help but snap away with my camera.
Nearby I can hear the sounds of a family wrapping up a picnic on the grass and the faint tunes of a string quartet from the wedding venue.
There is a pleasant walking track that goes around the Cottage, taking you close to the water's edge. Along the track you'll find several barbeque pits, a kids playground and toilet facilities. I can imagine coming back in the day and having a little barbeque here with friends and family.
