What a tasty find of Vietnamese cuisine along Rokeby Road in Subiaco. Just a short 10-minute stroll from Subiaco train station, you can find this cosy cafe offering a selection of banh mi. Banh mi is the Vietnamese word for bread.
On entering, the first thing I noticed was the overhanging conical light shades, which indeed put a stamp on the Vietnamese stylish café. Welcomed with a friendly smile, we then placed our order and sat at the wooden high-top tables. You can opt for the takeaway service too. I did note it was used quite often as many people popped in to pick up their order. You can also order online at Menulog.
The banh mis can be filled with an excellent choice of fillings. We decided on the barbecue chicken accompanied by a coffee; a long black for my husband and a flat white for myself. A salad variation of fresh cucumber, pickled carrots, coriander and their homemade sauce, complemented the chicken very nicely, and tasty too.
The crunchy bread roll was perfect. Please note if you're not a fan of spicy food, it might be worth mentioning to the friendly staff. Some bites were rather hot to the palate. The Vietnamese do like to include a piece of yin-yang, (hot with cold). I didn't notice how much spicier mine was until the last bite. Maybe they added a chilli to their homemade sauce? A secret filling is usually never shared, so I didn't ask.
On to the coffee. Perfect. I'm always ready for a midday coffee fix and it certainly delivered. I also have to confess I'm a serious bargain hunter, and if you want to save a few dollars, you can grab a deal to use at this clean, modern and welcoming cafe. If you visit Scoopon, there is a banh mi and drink combo voucher; drink up to the value of $5 and banh mi up the value of $10.90 can be purchased for $7, a saving of $8 in your back pocket. (Expires 25/05/18). I must say, although this is a fantastic deal, I would pay the full price as their banh mi was delicious and the coffee too, splendid! Please continue to scroll and look through their menu.
