Wild & Swingin’ launch at Lyric’s Underground
Popular Perth rhythm and blues band Bang Bang Betty & the H-Bombs, is to release its second four-track vinyl EP at Lyric's Underground on Saturday May 22.
Bang Bang Betty & the H-Bombs, all set to launch their new EP.
Wild & Swingin' features authentic original songs that bring 50s rock n roll to life. Fronted by Coo Jarvis, or Miss Dynamite, also known as Bang Bang Betty, the EP reflects the same vibrant sound as the band's live shows.
R&B band 3 Aces Down and vinyl DJ Dave Blaine will be special guests at the launch. DJ Blaine will be playing 1950s and 60s dance floor fillers on the night.
Bang Bang Betty & the H-Bombs have wowed crowds at events including the Falls Festival and Fringe World and also delivered its rhythm and blues sound in Japan in 2019. The band went into the studio to record the tracks for the new release just before COVID-19 hit at the end of 2019.
They took the same kind of approach that would have been used in recordings in the 1950s, cutting the four songs live with minimal overdubs. It produces sound with an edge not usually captured in a modern studio, with a warm sound suited to vinyl that harks back to the golden era of rock n roll.

The EP features two original songs, the R&B Stomp To The H-Bombs and the lighter That's What I Need, both written by guitarist Andy Jarvis. The other two tracks are the band's rock and roll interpretations of New Orleans style R&B tunes by Big Maybelle (That's a Pretty Good Love) and the obscure Ruth Durand track (I'm Wise), and the band gives both tunes their own swinging touch.
As well as music from the new EP at the launch event, the band will feature the music of Ruth Brown, Wanda Jackson, Imelda May and more. Short previews of each song are at https://bangbangbettytheh-bombs.hearnow.com
Vocalist Coo Jarvis takes inspiration from the great R&B singers of the era and adds her own interpretation and style, which helps set Bang Bang Betty & the H-Bombs apart.
