Unleash your inner mountain goat
If you're a lost mountain goat in Melbourne you will almost definitely be heading to the Capitol Theatre at some stage between 19 and 22 June, when the Banff Mountain Film Festival makes its stop in our city.

The beautiful rugged mountain town of Banff in Canada plays host to a festival of short films and documentaries on the genres of outdoor sports, off-beat wilderness adventures, conservation and mountain living each autumn, with the best films from the festival selected to go on a world tour. Rock-climbing and mountaineering feats, big mountain skiing, stomach churning kayaking scenes, the odd BASE jump and someone's close shave with a crevasse, grizzly bear, [insert other possibilities for death and grievous injury here] are likely to make the cut each year.

If the previous years are anything to go by it will be a gripping three hours of viewing and you will spend the 10 minute intermission expressing disbelief and admiration at what some people manage to get up to in Mother Nature's epic playground. Grab your very best polar fleece, channel your inner goat and soak up the mountain culture right on Swanston Street.

Tickets are available from the Banff Australia website . Seating is not allocated so if you attend with a large group you should arrive early and wait at the doors. Alternatively, be prepared to split into smaller groups and enjoy a banter with the guy in the North Face puffa next to you.
