Supernatural beings' beverage preferences are a source of some debate. Rumour has it that fairies' favourite drink is milk and honey. Elves are said to enjoy a tipple of white wine. But have you ever wondered what mermaids like to sip?

The folk at have provided the answer to that question with their stunning marine blue Mermaid Latte. A luscious blend of sea minerals, blue superfoods, adaptogenic (healing) herbs, Ayurvedic chai spices, creamy coconut milk and manuka honey, this warming drink (also available in an iced version) will linger on the lips.

And if it's unicorns you're really interested in? This airy eatery, located opposite lush Gold Coast parkland and within cooee of the ocean, offers a Unicorn Latte, too, which includes earthy flavours of beetroot and turmeric.

effortlessly straddles the space between French patisserie, health food store, hip cafe and authentic Asian diner. There's a cabinet filled with treats such as buttery croissants and choux pastries, an extensive beverage list covering everything from iced Nutella to cold-pressed juice and a ripping menu that reads like it originates from somewhere far more hot and humid.

I chose the flavoursome Egg Nasi ($18.90) with optional satay prawn skewers ($7). It was a full-bodied meal, with the only niggle being that I found the chilli sambal sauce a little tame. My companion ordered the Katsu Curry Bowl ($18.90) which included panko crumbed chicken breast with steamed white rice, Japanese style curry sauce, Asian cress and salty pickled ginger. Another winner, so I'm told.

Other menu items at include acai bowls, bacon and egg rolls, sweetcorn fritters, and Japanese noodle salad. Fusion flavours can also be found - think croissants loaded with karaage chicken or pork belly banh mi. There is also something called Autumn Goodness, comprised of roasted butternut pumpkin tossed in harissa, purple carrots, parsley, hummus, rocket, pomegranate, goats feta, freekeh, spicy nuts and a bittersweet vinaigrette. This turbocharged combination of superfoods wafted past me en route to another table. I'll try that next time.

is licensed, so you can enjoy bubbles, beer, wine, or a signature gin and tonic made with ingredients from Tumbulgum distiller Ink Gin . And don't be surprised if you find yourself raising your glass to a home-grown celebrity while you're there. Hugh Jackman apparently loves the cruffins, while Margot Robbie's hen's party pastry masterclass was hosted and catered by . Or there's always the chance of spotting a mermaid. Or a unicorn ...
