in Newmarket has had an interesting life. It was once a storage area for a nearby tannery, and supported lucerne crops and a small herd of cattle. Dating back to May 1859, the historic land was also known as Speedys Paddock before being sold to the Brisbane City Council in 1983 for parkland.

Today visitors to can enjoy the luscious green grass, take a gentle stroll on the walkways, a scenic bike ride or a walk with pooch. A children's playground (with swings and a very enticing giant red climbing wheel) as well as barbeques are available for those that want to stop a little bit longer.



The park and waterways attract and support fauna and flora. On the day of my visit, kookaburras, black water ducks and swallows came to visit.



, which has a length of .97kms, borders Ennogera Creek with walkways connecting three suburbs: Ashgrove, Newmarket and Kelvin Grove. The tiny bridge and pathway over Ennogera Creek is subject to flooding so best to avoid it after a heavy downfall.
