On 12 December 2015, Baluk Arts will open the doors to its artists studio in Mornington and you are invited.
Baluk is a local Boonwurrung word meaning many. Owned by a collaboration of local Aboriginal Artists, Baluk Arts is a Mornington based non-profit Victorian Aboriginal arts organisation. The team of Aboriginal artists associated with Baluk Arts come from diverse backgrounds, and create artwork that reflects their own themes of identity in a contemporary cultural context.
Much of the artwork seen on display Baluk Arts, which are available to buy, include clap sticks, carved wooden artifacts, paintings, works on paper, natural jewellery, didgeridoos, handmade cards, books, scarves and sculpture.
The sale of artwork you buy from Baluk Arts is used to buy art materials and maintain the non-profit organisation, which in turn benefits the Aboriginal artists associated with the studios.
Baluk Arts works closely with the community in the way of youth leadership programs, community development initiatives, public displays and workshops. If you are interested in joining a workshop, there is a series of classes happening now until 5 December.
When Baluk Arts invites you into the studios on 12 December, you will meet the artists and watch them as they work. You can also try your hand at activities such as weaving, feather flowers and more. There will also be lots of new artwork on display, and a wonderful selection of creative crafts that would make ideal Christmas gifts for your loved ones. Find Baluk Arts
