, a Sydney-based symphony orchestra, produces a number of concerts each year, performing orchestrations at the highest standard while keeping the atmosphere fun, light, and enjoyable for all!
Their most recent concert, held on May 31 at Macquarie Theatre (Macquarie University), provided a Sunday afternoon filled with beautiful music performed by talented musicians, both amateur and professional.
Opening with the
Don Pasquale Overture (Donizetti), the orchestra brought the piece to life, showcasing the various moods of the music – a perfect start to the show! Following, Sinfonia conductor Gary Stavrou addressed the audience, engaging them with some trivia questions, the winners receiving some tickets the Sinfonia's next show in September. The trombone section performed next, demonstrating the versatility of the instrument.
was then joined by celebrated bassoonist
Kim Walker. Formerly the Dean and Principal of the Sydney Conservatorium of Music (2004 – 2011), Kim Walker has travelled extensively in her musical career, performing as a soloist with some of the world's leading orchestras and even performing for global dignitaries at the White House. With the Sinfonia, Walker performed Elgar's
Romance for Bassoon and Orchestra Op. 62, as well as Vivaldi's
Bassoon Concerto RV 484.
A short interval followed Kim Walker's outstanding performance. Tea, coffee, juice and a selection of cakes were available for purchase, as well as programs (priced at $3). Attendees were also encouraged to submit their form for the lucky door prize, which was drawn as the performance resumed.
After interval, the Sinfonia performed Brahm's
Serenade No. 1 in D Major, Op. 11, which travels through a number of movements, taking the listener on a musical journey.
's next concert will be held at the Macquarie Theatre within Macquarie University (Balaclava Road, North Ride) on Sunday 13 September. The show will commence at 2:30pm and come to a close by 5pm. The show will feature Clarinet soloist Artie Shaw. Tickets are well priced at $25 (or $20 for a concession) and can be purchased online in advance at
