A 13 km walk north past six beaches leads from Ballina to Lennox Head. The family and dog-friendly shared path can be done in short but interesting segments. As you stroll along to keep your eyes peeled for different bird species as well as wildlife such as lizards, frogs, echidnas and wallabies. Dolphins and sharks frequent these waters and between May and October, you may spot migrating whales.

For a short but scenic option start at Lighthouse Beach Surf Club where there is ample parking, toilet facilities, a cafe and a beach patrol during school holidays. Above and to the left the lookout, near the Richmond River Lighthouse , affords views over Shelly Beach and south to Evans Head.

Rejoin the shared pathway past Shelly Beach, where you can stop for a swim and continue on the roadside pathway which leads into coastal bushland. It is also possible to walk to the end of the beach and rejoin the path near the headland. Angels Beach is the next beach and is longer than the first two. You can walk along the sand or through groves of large paperbark trees and littoral rainforest.

Walking from Lighthouse Beach to Angels Beach offers an ever-changing panorama and the variety of walking on sand, through the surf, and on boardwalks, pathways and bush tracks. This walk is suitable for children and dogs and can be done at any time of year.
