Ballerina is a delightful animated film about following your passion and dreams. It has an all-star voice cast that includes Elle Fanning, Dane DeHaan, 'Dance Mom's' Maddie Ziegler and Carley Rae Jepson.
The film is set in 1879 Paris and you'll enjoy seeing the city with all the typical landmarks. If you don't know the history of the Statue of Liberty, it was designed by a French sculptor and gifted to the United States from the people of France.
Felicie is a young orphan from Brittany with a passion for dancing. With her best friend, Victor, an aspiring inventor, they devise a plan to escape for Paris where the Eiffel Tower is still being built. Felicie falls into auditions for becoming a prima ballerina at the Paris Opera.
I'm sure children will enjoy this film about working hard to achieve your dreams. The music is uplifting and it's a light-hearted way to spend the afternoon. We all love a good rag to riches story and this one's got that in spades. If you daughter's latest fad is ballet, then they probably won't stop raving about the film.
Some of the characters fall flat. I would have liked to have seen the other girls participate in the ballet final and celebrate the team effort, but on a positive note the film does pass the Bechdel test.
