is a park where its historical heritage is not only celebrated but literally used in a design that beautifully incorporates Sydney's present day move to a sustainable future and happens to boast one of the best views of the harbour.

Following European Settlement of the area, was used as a stop for ships arriving from Europe. During their stopover, cargo would be unloaded from the vessels and reloaded with sandstone before the ships' departure back to Europe. The sandstone on board the ships would be used as counterweights, also known as ballasts.

From 1928 to 2002, Caltex occupied the area, during which time they used to process and store oil related products.

Nowadays, however, has been converted into a beautiful park open to the public. It was acquired by the NSW State Government in 2002, who have kept the park's legacy in its design.

The park not only boasts amazing views of the harbour and of the city, but includes a great design in which the old materials from the Caltex site have been incorporated.

The walls have been constructed from old rubble and old Caltex tanks are featured on display.

The park also includes pieces of art and beautiful pieces of poetry.

To explore the park for yourself head to Ballast Point Road in Birchgrove. More information can also be found on Project Seeds or on the NSW Government's page .
