Sanctuary Day Spa is a bit of a surprise in the goldrush town of Ballarat. Only a 90-minute drive from Melbourne, it's a day spa that is sumptuously modern, relaxing and peaceful - perfect for winding down after a day of exploring Ballarat's sights.
Ballarat's Sanctuary Day Spa is located in a stunning, modern building.
The Mercure has a man-made lake and garden, creating a stunning green oasis as you arrive. It's something of a "grand entrance" that puts you in the headspace of indulgence before you even step in the door.
You don't necessarily need to spend a bomb to experience the luxury here. For only $30, visitors can enjoy "The Sanctuary" experience. This includes an hour enjoying an amazing hydrotherapy pool with a built-in armrest, foot massage and six jets per person. The experience also gives you a chance to enjoy a dry-heat sauna with a wood stove, while enjoying the beautiful green oasis from the floor-to-ceiling glass windows.
If you're feeling a bit more flush, there are plenty of fabulous options for health and beauty at the Sanctuary. Some of the body treatments include wellness massages, thermal muscle relief, or pregnancy and hot stone massage. These range in price from $125 to $190 for an hour to an hour-and-a-half experience.

Sanctuary Day Spa has six treatment room including dual suites - if you'd like to share an experience with your partner, a friend, or a parent. One of these rooms is for private bathing - try a one-hour experience including red rose petals and rose oils, active Pink Kaolin clay, and Himalayan pink salts to soften the skin.

If you'd like a bit of a pep-up for your looks, there are plenty of options here too. These include acid peels, microdermabrasion, oxygen facials, LED therapy, and anti-aging treatments. These range in cost from $100 to $160. Alternatively, buff up your tootsies with a luxe manicure, pedicure or "foot renewal" treatment. These will set you back from $50 to $95.
At the end of your treatment or experience, the therapist will guide you back to the relaxation lounge for tea and nutritious treats and a discussion about maintaining your results at home. It's also a bit of a chance to rehydrate with a glass of water and a moment to catch your breath before heading back out into the real world.

It's worth taking time out from a busy schedule to relax and treat yourself to a bit of the good stuff. This place really is a sanctuary - hidden away from the hustle and bustle of Ballarat's main business district, and gives anyone looking for a bit of peace and quiet the chance to indulge, relax, and get away.
