Literary talent will be visiting Ballarat for the inaugural Writers Festival which takes on 20 to 22 October. The theme of the festival is democracy.

Some of authors and journalists, poets and playwrights attending the festival include Graeme Simsion, Anne Buist, Carmel Bird, Van Badham, Judith Brett, Angela Savage, Patricia Edgar, Sofie Laguna, Sam Dastyari, Dennis Altman, Jenny Hocking and Nayuka Gorrie.

The weekend includes panel discussions, Q&A sessions, workshops and Federation University 2nd Year Acting Company will present The Chekhov Project. You find the full weekend program here.

During the weekend, there's a FREE children's program at the Museum of Australian Democracy at Eureka featuring Meredith Costain, Phil Kettle, Wendy McKay-Taylor and Claire Saxby.
