Ballarat Vintage Collectables Market

Heading south from Ballarat on my way to Melbourne, I came across a huge statue of a miner and stopped for a look. With an ingrained history in mining and the search for gold in the 1800s, this statue depicts Ballarat’s rise to fame as approximately six thousand miners arrived each week seeking their fortune.

Stopping for a photograph, I found a large wrought iron building a little way behind. For those who love collectables that have come through from someone else’s hands or for those that are new to everyone’s hands, whether old, new, second-hand, completely unique or all the same, the
Ballarat Vintage Collectables Market is the place to visit.
On entering the building, one would never imagine the size and capacity of items it contains including a combination of small market stalls, each individually owned, yet different in wares from each other, and the only decision to make, was which way to start!
Anyone interested in collecting Coca-Cola memorabilia?
As I was never a Coca-Cola soft drink fan, I had no idea the amount of memorabilia that had been available to collect throughout the years, although I could remember the Coca-Cola emblem being on a Yo-Yo toy my brother owned during his youth. Where would we all be today, if we kept every glass bottle, cap, dolls, and piece of merchandise?
Collecting can be an interesting pastime
Then there were items like metal signs from car garages that I remember seeing hung in my boyfriend’s shed and the odd metal cans that contained oil and petrol scattered about without the thought of them being worthy of any gain. However, today, these items are sought after by car enthusiasts and the like, to enhance their dens and bars.
Good quality Leather Jackets
From old machinery, second-hand items, antiques, painting, stuffed toys, furniture, baby wear, vinyl records, knick-knacks, Tupperware, crystal, retro clothing and leather coats to new to purchase items such as plants, soaps, gifts, gourmet foods, leather handbags, ornaments, t-shirts and exquisite jewellery, Ballarat’s Vintage Collectable Market is the one-stop shop for any kind of present or occasion. Unless you know exactly what you are looking for, a quick stop is not to be expected as there is so much to see.
Beautiful Amber and other Gemstone Jewellery to purchase
After you have exhausted yourself from purchasing, reading, and walking, a retro café located towards the centre of the building is where a warm cup of coffee, tea, and cake or meal awaits. On the day of my visit, a free cupcake was given to patrons. The Café itself was a talking point with vinyl-covered tables, which I remember from my grandmother’s house in the sixties, metal signs hanging from the walls depicting youth favourites of Peter’s Ice Cream and Lifesaver Lollies, and retro style café figurines to match the décor.
I cannot remember the Lifesaver Lolly being this cheap!
I thoroughly loved this gem of a find, and I am sure that on my next visit to the area, the collectables would have increased or changed to provide new stall holders with opportunities to share their wares.
Betty certainly did not miss out on being featured
