The is on from Friday 23 August through to Sunday 20 October 2019. Bringing photography, exhibitions, workshops, education programs, screenings, outdoor public art, reviews, discussions and a variety of social events to the historic city of Ballarat.

The attracts significant International and Australian photographers as one of Australia's pre-eminent photographic festivals. Held every two years, new, previously unseen work from local and international artists is showcased.

This year's festival will be headlined by Chinese photographer-activist Liu Bolin. Bolin's, Camouflage, depicts meticulously painted human bodies hidden amongst everyday spaces and places. Sometimes called "the invisible man" for his signature style of camouflaging himself within his images, we are encouraged to question our sense of self and mutual understanding and connectedness.

Also featuring, and celebrating the International Year of Indigenous Languages, Indigenous Australian artist Dr Fiona Foley's exhibition Who are these strangers and where are they going? showcases key works from Foley's 30-year career. The interactive installations, also serve to present a collaboration with musicians Joe Gala and Teila Watson, of the oldest known song in the history of Australia, telling of the exchange between Captain Cook and the Badtjala people.

Other highlights include Bauhuas Foto, The Lost Ones, celebrating 100 years since the establishment of the Weimar school and To the Moon and Back, in recognition of the Apollo moon landing 50 years ago.

Other exhibits deal with current political and social issues across the globe. Full details can be found in the detailed program available online .

Events will be held across a variety of locations in and around the City of Ballarat, including the Art Gallery of Ballarat, Ballarat Town Hall, National Centre for Photography and in many public outdoor areas.

Liu Bolin / Camouflage is the only ticketed event, the rest is free. Tickets can be purchased online .
