Thu 12 Feb 2015 - Mon 16 Feb 2015

Rockabilly, one of the earliest styles of rock and roll dating to the early 1950s, is set to take over the streets of Ballarat's CBD in an impressive way as the historic town celebrates the third annual Ballarat Beat Rockabilly Festival.

Come and play at the Ballarat Beat Rockabilly Festival for one day or all 4 days from 12 to 15 February 201. Die-hard Rockabilly fans will be in heaven, and those new to the genre will find plenty of colour, life, movement and music to entertain them for hours. The rockabilly crowd at Ballarat Beat is one of the most joyous crowds you'll find anywhere. The aim is fun and it is always reached with local music acts spilling from bars and balconies, hundreds of glamorous retro guys and gals flocking into town, parades of classic cars and hot rods, unique market stalls and more.

It's a festival not only for the rockabilly enthusiast but is a fun-filled weekend, with the following highlights for everyone:

Live Music

To kick off this annual event, a Pre-Party featuring live music from The Detonators and Atomic Hi-Tones will take place at the George Hotel on Thursday evening.

The Detonators and the Atomic Hi-Tones are both Melbourne based original roots rockers bands. Be prepared for a live performance of high fuelled roots rock and roll.

The George Hotel

The George Hotel with its rich history is the official hotel of Ballarat Beat. The refurbished inn's history dates back to 1853 when the first building stood until the 1880's, where Parliamentary honours addressed open air meetings from the George balcony to the crowded assemblages on the roadway below. The second George hotel erected at the end of the Victoria era in 1902 still stands and will provide 2 of the main venues for the festival: The Lounge for band performances, and the Lane for food, beverages and free live music. The venue next door "Lydiard Wine Bar" will also be a main band performance venue and the Mining Exchange (across the road from The George) is the 3rd live music and fashion parade venue.

The George's usual (and delicious) menus will be available along with Rockabilly style food such as burgers, dogs and shakes.

Check out the George's menus at #thelanecafe ">online (and follow the tabs across for all dining outlets at The George).

All food and beverage businesses in the Lydiard Street strip (between Mair and Sturt Streets), will be getting into the Rockabilly festival spirit too!

With live performances from Thursday to Sunday 15th, you will surely end up at the George Hotel Balcony at some point. If you're still around on the Sunday, there is a free tiki party on the balcony from 4-10pm with live music and cocktails.

Rockabilly themed Burlesque Show

The House of Burlesque , a dance school from Brunswick that specialises in showcasing the art of striptease is coming to Ballarat! Weekend Festival Passes include entry to the Rockabilly themed Burlesque Show at the stunning Alexandria on Lydiard on Sat 14th February from 8pm.

Over the weekend you will see local musical acts, art exhibitions, fashion parades, specialty clothes and trade stalls, rock and roll dance lessons, car displays and the crowning of 2014 Miss Ballarat Beat Pin-up.
