Come and the first apron festival in Ballarat
The inaugural Ballarat Apron Festival will take place at St Patrick's Hall from 10 to 11 May in Ballarat and is one of the many activities which will take place during the annual Heritage Weekend.

It will be Victoria's first-ever celebration showcasing a display of vintage aprons and memorabilia alongside some fabulous modern and vintage inspired aprons.

A highlight of the festival will be the apron making competition entries on display. If you would like to participate click here. Entrants are invited to contribute up to three pieces across a variety of categories, including prettiest baking apron and best embroidery.

During the weekend two apron parades will be held at the Mining Exchange at 11.45am each day. Kaz Cooke, author, cartoonist, radio broadcaster and public speaker, will model in the parade.

Heather Macleod, one of the organisers said, ''Aprons existed because clothing was expensive and washing it was sometimes very difficult. They were very practical garments.''
