The Island of Gods doesn't just have to be about sun, sand and the surf. If you fancy getting sweaty too, you can enter the yearly Bali Triathlon which takes place in Sanur.
It's now in its 12th year and is nicknamed the
"Triathlon for the Soul." In fact, it has been called
"The best triathlon Run Short Course in Asia 2017" by asiatri.com and the
"Best Destination Triathlon" by Competitor Magazine. If you fancy giving it a go and joining around 2000 other athletes, registration is still open and the categories are divided by gender and age from 16 years old. There are also three further options you can choose, whether you fancy the Olympic Distance, Sprint Distance or 5K Fun Run. The Olympic option is a 1.5k swim, 40k ride and 10k run. Whereas, the Sprint race is 0.5k swim, 20k ride and 5K run.
All the action starts and finishes at Mertasari Beach in the south of Sanur. But the run and bike tracks take you along the main bypass to the top northern point and back again.
Although the big day is on the 10th of November, preparation starts at 7am on the 8th of November This includes a guided bike course tour, mechanic services, a group swim and jog. Not to mention the optional ceremonial bike blessing, athlete reception, and hi-carb dinner the night before. You'll also have to collect your race pack the day before and attend a race briefing.
For more information on the event including how to support the racers and even be an official volunteer on the day, please see the website.
