Balenciaga S.A. is a luxury fashion house founded in Spain by Cristóbal Balenciaga, a designer born in the Basque Country, Spain. Balenciaga is considered one of the most influential fashion designers of the 20th century and was referred to as "the master of us all" by Christian Dior.
Balenciaga with his bubble skirts, use of fabrics and feminine, yet "modernistic silhouettes" became the trademarks of the house. His garments sculptural quality and unique use of colour and texture, set the scene for modern design.
Showcasing the work of this renowned couturier, the exhibition brings 100 garments and hats from the 1950s and 1960s alongside other works from his protégés who continue to work in the style inspired by the designer.
The collection also includes sketches, patterns, photographs, fabric samples and catwalk footage providing an insight into Balenciaga's work.
