Visiting after some rain will be best

One will not expect a waterfall right in the middle of suburbia but that is exactly what they have in northwest Sydney. Just a short walk from Ferndale Avenue, Balaka Falls is nestled between Carlingford and North Rocks. It offers a great spot for photo opportunities and kids play. I wouldn't really recommend it for swimmingóthe water is too shallowóbut after a rainy day, it will be perfect at least for wading.

If you are after a bit of bushwalking, you can start at Norfolk Place. It is a cul-de-sac that has a footpath to the Hunts Creek Reserve walk. The falls is around 250 meters from Norfolk Place, and you can continue on the trail to Parkland Road. The trail is just less than 2 kilometres which makes it perfect for kids' introduction to bushwalking.

Bring your own water and food if you are going, and be mindful of safety after heavy rains. There's plenty of street parking at entry (and exit points) around Norfolk Place, Ferndale Avenue and Parkland Road. And don't forget, help keep our natural surrounds cleanóbring your own rubbish with you.
