Not just street art,
Drewery Lane has also become famous for its eateries. One of these is of course Bakemono Bakers, a small takeaway spot at the corner of Little Lonsdale Street. It offers a Japanese-inspired menu with popular items such as yuzu almond croissant, blueberry custard crumble danish, shokupan, matcha canele, and more. Those wanting a savoury treat can enjoy the spinach and ham options instead.

Their pastries are to die for. I tried the croissant and danish, and they were among the best I've ever had. Yuzu (a citrus fruit) is one of the common ingredients in Japanese cuisine. It has a tart flavour much like the grapefruit. Here, in the croissant, it shined through beautifully and was not too overpowering. The texture of the croissant itself was very flaky. The filling was sumptuous and rather generous. Similarly, the danish had a copious amount of jam and custard filling. It was topped with crumble too. The multi-layered pastry was seriously next level.

I arrived just before 8am on a weekday, and hence there wasn't a queue. However, be prepared to wait in line later in the morning and especially on weekends. Opening hours are 7:30am to 3pm Monday to Friday and 8:30am to 3pm Saturday to Sunday. Do check them out next time you're in the city. You won't be disappointed.
