There's nothing more "Melbourne" than quality steaks, doorways made for Instagram, neon signs, greenery inside and cocktails with pretty, but environmentally friendly straws. So it might come as quite a surprise that I have found all this and more in the "Switch". For the non-locals that would be Ipswich in QLD.
Bakehouse Steakhouse is as cute as its tagline "let's meat in the switch". There's nothing stuffy about this place. The staff are friendly - not just to the cool crowd like some other hipster venues that we won't name. The hours are generous (open till late), and you can easily request a reservation online and get a confirmation back within the hour.
It is a steakhouse, after all, so let's get down to the meat of the matter so to speak. The menu is simple, with only a handful of steaks to choose from. Served with dressed leafy salads and endless fries. Yeah, you read that right. You then have a choice of a handful of sauces and then again a handful of sides. It sounds a little too simple, right? It's not. Everything they do they is well - done (only for pun purposes, they actually recommend their steaks to be cooked medium rare but will cook them to your liking anyway).
The menu actually has just enough options to cater to everyone, the big eater, the light eater, the marbled steak enthusiast or just your average guy. Now not that I didn't have high hopes for Ipswich but the quality of the meal? It. Was. Perfect. The last time I had a steak this good, with perfectly crunchy, thin cut french fries and well-balanced sauce, I was in Paris. Not to offend the French but - this might have even been better.
Their bar had a good range of wine spritzers that came in girly glasses and a decent range of beers to offer. Again, the range is large enough to give you options but small enough to make it a quick decision.
The place looks like the Pinterest board of decor ideas you'll never be able to afford. The place is pur-ret-ty. So pretty in fact that a quick scan of the room makes it easy to see why after only a few months of being opened, Instagram is flooded with eagle-eyed snappers taking advantage picture-perfect settings all over the restaurant.
If you're after the perfect photo while your there you could take a photo in front of . The bar The beautiful tiles floor at the entrance The neon steak sign out front
The velvet couches
The decadent bar
The neon sign inside at the counter
The summer-time courtyard
Hell, even the toilet doors are so cute they've made it onto social media.
You could literally have any kind of event here. Date night, girls night out, engagement party, birthday, work-do, corporate event.
Save yourself the ticket to Paris. Head down to Ipswich and for under 90 bucks you can have drinks, steaks, fries and all the dreamy photos to remember it by.
