Put this on the must-do list for school holiday fun
The days are getting longer and warmer and the kids are getting restless. Good news: I've discovered another great park in the Redlands where the young ones can run themselves ragged and the older kiddies can shoot hoops and kick goals. And there is undercover exercise equipment for the adults.

Let me backtrack a little. Bailey Road Park in Birkdale is expansive. There is plenty of room for team sports and the area includes a basketball court and post, as well as goalposts for kicking sports.

Towards the centre of this neighbourhood parkland, is an area surrounded by shady trees that includes a variety of playground equipment as well as a flying fox. Kids love these, don't they? Little children would have great fun on all the climbing apparatus as well as the slippery dip and swings. For peace of mind, the playground is far enough from the road, so that parents won't have continual apoplexy watching their young.

Close by the playground area is a covered picnic table and gas barbeque so that you can make an outing out of a trip to the park, especially with school holidays approaching. More good news: there is a toilet. Yes!

For the athletes amongst us, there is exercise equipment. And can you believe, it is undercover! Yes, rain, hail, or shine you can still exercise to your heart's content. To be honest I'm not sure if that is a good or bad thing ...

There are also areas where you can simply sit and meditate, and the concrete pavement along the boundary of the parkland would be perfect for beginner roller skaters or those on trikes.

A picnic in a park is a great way to entertain children. I'm happy on a park bench with an ice cream.

Bailey Road Park is located at 2-20 Bayford Street, Birkdale.
