Great $20 lunch offer with terrific food and superb views
On our way back from an exhibition at Darling Harbour, we strolled along Cockle Bay Wharf in search of a good lunch. There are many eateries along this strip, a few advertising lunch specials. It was the Italian restaurant, Baia The Italian, that caught our eye. A $20 lunch special which included a main meal, a wine or soft drink, as well as a hot drink, from 11.30 am to 4.00 pm. This restaurant also comes with great waterviews.
One dining companion ordered the gnocchi with pork belly. The waitress warned that the gnocchi is not the traditional small fluffy bits but a large gnocchi serving. When it arrived, our eyes popped. We had been advised of a difference with the gnocchi but it still took our breath away. It was delicious, though my companion said it was served with pork bits and not the usually sized pork belly. When we checked the menu again, it stated pork belly lardons which are strips or cubes of pork fat. Nonetheless, she polished off the dish and nodded her approval.
The lamb and rosemary meatballs, which I ordered, was absolutely delightful. Five juicy generous-sized meatballs in a Napoletana sauce with a creamy mornay drizzled over the top. Two slices of crusty bread accompanied the meatballs for wiping the delectable sauce.
