Four unsuccessful actors come up with an idea to kick start their careers. They decide to spend a weekend at an isolated cabin in the woods to write their own movie with parts for each of them. The start working on a script for a horror film about a man with a bag over his head who attacks people in the woods, when their creation apparently comes to life.

Baghead (2008) is an American horror-comedy film directed by two brothers, Jay and Mark Duplass (who also directed the excellent romantic comedy Table 19). It stars Greta Gerwig (director of Barbie and Lady Bird), as Michelle, a young actor who has a crush on Matt (Ross Partridge, from Prom Night and Stranger Things). Catherine (Elise Muller) is Matt's on again- off again girlfriend. Chad (Steve Zissis, from Another Evil and Her) has a crush on Michelle, and begs his best friend Matt not to sleep with her, so the house is already full of jealousy and tension before the arrival of the Baghead figure.

I thought the concept was refreshing and fun, and I was pleasantly surprised by the very last scene. There is very little violence, with the film relying mainly on the characters to keep things movie. However, if you don't like shaky hand held camera work, or cringy character interactions, then this movie is not for you.

Baghead is a quirky horror comedy that would make a good addition to a Halloween movie marathon. It is currently streaming on Tubi.
