I have had Burmese food in other countries but this restaurant in Strathfield is worth a try, particularly if you can't afford to go to Burma.
The restaurant is at the corner of the Boulevard. The staff here are friendly and efficient. In a Korean BBQ populated district, Burmese food seems to be quite the 'odd' one out here. I decided to give it a try.
The food here is relatively inexpensive. Mains are around $12-15. Our bill ended up about $20 pp.
The dishes are a fraction smaller than you expect, nevertheless, we did not manage to finish the food. In a way, the smaller dishes (and cheaper prices) were a smart idea because you could try a lot more dishes.
We had the Bagan Chicken (supposedly the famous Burmese Chicken dish, but it let me down since it was just the usual honey soy chicken), Burmese Fried Rice, Prawn Stir Fry and Snow Pea Salad.
The Burmese flavours are quite exotic and distinct. I would describe it as a hit or miss flavour.
I quite enjoyed the Snow Pea Salad. I assumed that it would have some peas in the salad, but it turns out that there was more green 'shoots' instead of actual peas. The flavour was both Thai/ Vietnamese. It is hard to describe Burmese flavours but once you try it, you will know it.
My best friend and I have been going here, religiously, for years!! Such value for money, really good service by the staff and the food is to die for!!! Every time we have friends and family visit from overseas or from another state, we make sure we take them here at least once!!!
