Oh my gosh, there are certain creatures to be found in ones' backyard, if one is fortunate enough to live in Queensland, that I would regard as a backyard 'buddy', but in heaps of instances, I tend to do the 'ninja shiver' when coming face to face with a local creepy crawly.

This is why the Sunshine Coast Council have our best interests at heart and are introducing us to our Backyard Buddies with free presentations of what's what and who's who, in the zoo. And also no doubt, to protect the poor defenceless creatures that erroneously get in the way of a garden shovel or get mistaken for that African Cobra, that really does only reside in Africa, people - so it's really a win-win for all concerned.

If you have ever shown more than idle curiosity regarding the buddies you might have in your backyard and are seriously keen to find out whether these backyard buddies are really in fact a local or an introduced species i.e. those invasive little geckoes, that play havoc with everything from air-conditioning units to leaving mine dumps every which way, then the FREE Backyard Buddies presentations are definitely the way to go.

Join Martin Fingland from Geckoes Wildlife for these FREE presentations, being held at various libraries across the region during the month of June and discover the secret life of flying foxes and other native animals that depend on the flying foxes for survival.

Get up close and personal with three local species of flying fox and get to meet owls, snakes 'ninja shiver' here, and other animals that have a direct relationship with them;

Learn how flying foxes enhance the environment by pollinating and spreading the seeds of important trees; and

Discover more about our fascinating local creatures and what to do if you come into contact with them.
