Always wanted to know how to start and manage keeping bees in your backyard? Or perhaps you just wanted to learn that little bit more. Well, now you can and safely; online. The Backyard Basics Online Workshop session runs for 2 hours via Zoom and has plenty of time for Q&A. You'll leave with all the enthusiasm you can muster to get started as a beekeeper. BOOK HERE for this workshop on Saturday 6 June 2020 from 10am to 12pm. Have your notepad and writing materials with you.
Aside from a broad understanding of the history and biology of a colony, you'll learn about Occupational Health & Safety, protective clothing, live components and assembly, bee biology and seasonal management, legislation, diseases and pests of bees, extracting honey, inspecting hive for disease, purchasing hives and other products from hives to name a few. Your trainer Benedict Hughes is a fully qualified trainer and well-known registered Beekeeper. As The Practical Beekeeper and resident Beekeeper at CERES Environment Park in Brunswick he runs regular sessions about bees. You'll find his business on Facebook and he sells his products at Markets. He also has a 6 week accredited short course in Introduction to Beekeeping coming up in August.
