It's all in the name and this festival will take you back to that era of vintage entertainment, activities, swinging workshops, diners, and a whole lot more. Held at St Ives Showground, you'll be able to see fashion and beauty parades, shop at vintage markets, catch 'Elvis' on stilts, take in classic 50's movies and journey to a time when things seemed simpler.

Television was the technology, which matured from the 40's, and by the end of the 50's most people owned one. Music was the crooner sounds of the likes of Frank Sinatra and Tony Bennett before classic pop took over, followed by rock and roll in the mid 50's. A trip to the movies cost less than 50 cents. The 'baby boomers' were born and it was a time of affluence after the depression years.

This festival showcases a lot of talent and it starts Friday with Family Movie Night. Two 50's flicks will be screening - Singin' in the Rain and Jailhouse Rock. Catch one or both and enjoy a hotdog, some popcorn and a milkshake, or a martini for the adults. Intermission sees 'That Couple' entertaining crowds with their singing and theatrical, retro-themed show. Colourful costumes and fun is what this Sydney-based duo is all about. So bring your picnic rug or pull up your deck chair for this outdoor event.

On Saturday, the fun continues all day and into the evening. A hula hoop demo and workshop will get some of those kilos off along with rock n' roll dance workshops. There's also a lil' rockers area and face painting for the kiddies.

Dolls and Dames will provide 50's glamour with hair and beauty makeovers transforming you to this bygone era. A professional photographer and a photo booth will capture the moment. Come dressed up in 50's style as well and be in the running for best dressed prizes.

A display of hot rods, classic cars and motorbikes will be on display to please the blokes and a bar in the afternoon (till late) will quench many a thirsty adult and wash down all the fabulous food on offer.

The Nighthawk Diner is a pop-up appearing at this festival, started by two chefs with French fine dining backgrounds. They became obsessed with American culture and come in the form of a truck and trailer fitted out to allow them a changing menu depending on the event, the atmosphere and the music surrounding them. All ingredients, including buns, are made from scratch.

If it's some Mexican you want then try Cantina Movil, who will roll in with some spice to add to your day. Then there's Sherry and Candy's milk bar diner, built from a shipping container, which will serve gelato, slushies, ice cream sundaes and sodas (spiders), waffles on a stick and other delicious desserts. For those wanting a warming drink, their signature espresso coffee will give you a kick.

Entertainment includes artists and bands belting out a mixture of jazz, blues, swing, rock n roll, country, boogie woogie and latin. They include Pat Capocci, the Drey Rollan Band, the Jive Bombers and the Aston Martinis. A 50's sock hop (a dance in stockinged feet) in the evening will keep you grooving and yo yo'ing around.

Pull the bobby socks out and dust off the leather jacket 'cause happy days are here.
