When you go into a pub and see the line of five or six beer taps on the counter, do you face a personal decision making dilemma? What then will happen if you are confronted with 14 different beers and one cider on tap?
Bacchus Brewing Co at 2 Christine Place, Capalaba is a unique establishment that has been brewing bespoke beers for over 5 years which has recently opened its bar to the public.
And when you make that decision on which drink it will be poured through either two English hand pumps, 12 taps or directly from the cask – how it's poured it dependent on how it's brewed.
Once you order your drink of choice you can then prop yourself up against the bar or one of the tables made from rescued Milton Bowl bowling lanes. These nostalgic homes of the ghosts of 'gutter-balls past' might help you strike it lucky if you don't cross the foul line as you address the set-up with someone with whom you'd like to split your spare time.
If the beer doesn't bowl you over, the decor will.
The unique experience of Bacchus beers ensures something for everybody; even beer haters (a rare person who I am reliably informed does exist). If they say they don't like beer, I'll bet they like Lamingtons or Rocky Road or White Chocolate and Raspberries. If that's the case get them a Lamington Dark Ale or a Gold Medal winning Sex, Drugs and Rocky Road beer or, the Peoples' Choice Awarded, White Chocolate and Raspberry Pilsner. A visit to Bacchus will convert any non-believer and reaffirm the devotion of true beer lovers.
They may pretend to dislike beer but they'll never miss out on white chocolate and raspberrys
One visit will not be enough. In order to keep up with Bacchus you need to keep visiting as the ever changing range of beers just continues to astound. Bacchus beers can taste more like macadamia nuts with honey, coffee beans, strawberries, chocolate, rocky road or smokey bacon. Every new brew gets a distinctive name, for lovers of good chocolate and fast cars there's Ferrari Rocher, a blend of chocolate hazelnut deliciousness, or Hock, Stock and 2 Smoking Trotters, a beer with a pink hue that tastes like a honey glazed ham or Bacchus' interpretation of a Weisbeerflavoured with toasted coconut, raspberry and vanilla.
Breakfast in a bottle.
If you prefer a savoury or spicy flavour Bacchus has also developed beers such as, Uluroo Red Lager made with 100% Australian powdered kangaroo. The flavour is very subtle but gives a slightly savoury taste to the beer – yum, kangaroo beer! How about trying, The Bollox, a double black IPA loaded with resiny hops. Or, if you're in a bit early, why not try a Smokin' Mountie Canadian Breakfast Beer? This one has all the flavour of smoky bacon and maple syrup; just can't imagine a tastier breakfast.
If you're not doing any good on the bowling lanes, you can nip upstairs to the games' room. This is not the usual games' room, in fact, there isn't a single, noisy computer game to be seen – or heard. This room is filled with proper games such as darts, pool table, and board games including Battleship, Monopoly and Keesdrow. There's also a big screen TV where all types of sport can be viewed.
Bacchus doesn't provide food, but it does make way for some of the best beer drinking accompaniments you will ever taste. Every Friday from 1.00pm until late, Fire'N'Dough - Wood Fired Pizza are parked at the brewery serving pizza – what's better than beer and pizza?
Fire'N'Dough - Friday Nights
On an irregular basis other food truck turn up to provide nourishment to support the wholesomeness of the beer. These trucks include Puerto Taco and its incredible tacos, especially the fish taco. Or the always exciting Oi Taco , provider of the monstrous Taco Plate.
Tacos on the Deck.
If you're lucky, you might strike the superb barbecue vendor Char Baby or the roast spectacular The Bone Lorry, serving up some seriously delicious food. You may even be lucky enough to be there at the same time as the fabulous King Of The Wings.
Peace, Love and Barbecue
If you don't want to take the chance you'll miss out on suitable sustenance, then you are welcome to BYO food.
