Bac Lieu is a modest little restaurant located at Kilkenny Rd in Woodville Park. The restaurant specialises in Vietnamese cuisine, along with a few other Asian style dishes. The dishes we ordered during our visit were the Szechuan Beef, Samba Chicken, Chicken Omelette, Stir-fried Vegetables, Pad Thai, Salty Fish Fried Rice and a few of their entrees.

The beef in their Szechuan Beef was cooked to the correct doneness and while it was not as spicy as we had hoped, the heat still gave the dish a delicious spicy hit. It also had a bit of extra texture from the vegetables that was stir-fried with the beef.

Their Salty Fish Fried Rice was notable for the relatively large pieces of salted fish that gave the dish a delectable salty flavour. The rice was also fluffy and cooked just right with a bit of crunch from what I thought was slices of asparagus.

The Chicken Omelette was fluffy and cooked to golden brown with the filling adding a meaty texture to the dish. It was topped with a soy sauce and garlic based sauce that helped to lift the flavour of the dish, though we thought it was a bit too salty.

Pad Thai is a stir-fried dish of rice noodles that is usually flavoured with tamarind pulp, fish sauce, chilli and palm sugar. The noodles used in Bac Lieu's Pad Thai were cooked to al dente with their flavour enhanced by the Pad Thai sauce. It also had a topping of peanuts to give it a bit of crunch and comes with a lemon wedge that can be squeezed over the noodles before you eat them.

The chicken in the Samba Chicken was tender and much like the Szechuan Beef, the sauce used in the dish helped to bring out the flavour of the chicken and the vegetables that was cooked with it. The vegetables in the Stir-fried Vegetables had the right amount of bite to them with the sauce rounding out their flavour without overwhelming the vegetable's flavour.

We normally give entrée a miss but we sampled some of Bac Lieu's because it was included in our meal deal. We had Curry Puffs, Spring Rolls, Fried Wontons and Chicken Satay; and they were the best dishes of the night. The Curry Puffs had lovely flaky pastry encasing a delectable spicy vegetable curry and comes with a serving of sweet chilli sauce to dip it in. Both the Spring Rolls and Fried Wontons were cooked to perfection, with the crisp exterior contrasting wonderfully with their soft fillings. Their Chicken Satay is a bit of a misnomer in that it's not in the style that is associated with Malaysian cuisine, but the pieces of chicken were fired to golden brown complemented nicely by the serving of satay sauce.

Bac Lieu has live music to entertain you while you eat on certain days of the week. Ambience of the restaurant was quite good with a decent amount of off-street parking near the front of the restaurant.
