The is a Leederville enchanting and well hidden establishment.

Situated at the end of a welcoming, narrow lane-way, even the laneway is fascinating with its eclectic selection of vintage goods, wall paintings, pot plants and fabulous succulents.

Babylon has an admirable ambience with all staff members being friendly and helpful. Their menu is basic, however, the food they do have, is excellent, and I am always pleased when there is a small menu as I am quicker to chose!

Owned and run by Simon Adonis, Simon says (yes!) that Babylon has been going for about 2 years. Simon is a barista and they specialise in outstanding coffees in three sizes.

You walk down the narrow lane and come to a clearing where there are vintage tables and chairs, and to all dog lovers, apparently, these people are dog lovers and encourage you to bring along your dogs. There are of course, several places in the "yard" where your dog can get a drink. Some dogs can even sit at the table and many of us dog owners think dogs are "people without speech", and must, therefore, be treated as such!

Down the other side of this area is like a "coffee window" where you can order takeaway without having to go into the actual cafe.

Their menu consists of about 5 items and they have some of these on display under the counter.

These items are:
  • Voosht with cheese, jalapenos toastie
  • Bacon or veggie stack
  • Chook with sweet mustard pickles toastie
  • Ham with cheese and Dijon mustard toastie
  • 3 cheese with green chilli jam toastie

  • They have a range of divine looking cakes which I was told, are made daily by Simon's mother, Di, who dutifully delivers them fresh daily.

On the day we were there, Di had baked delicious slices such as:
  • Pharoahs Finger
  • Slice of Sunshine
  • Pep in your Step
  • Cherry Ripe bar
  • Brownies
  • Banana bread
  • Sticky date
  • Gingerbread men
  • plus more which are varied regularly

  • These cost around $4.50 each, which is a lot cheaper than at most other cafes and restaurants around Perth. I actually wanted the "voosht toastie" however my friend who is fussier than I am, wanted this one, so I took another one, and tasted some of hers!It was a "simple" toastie, but packed with flavour, and was well worth the $9 which it cost.

I ordered the bacon stack which our waitress, Lisa, brought to us within about five minutes, and which cost just $10 for two pieces. I was pleased this stack was not too large a serving, and was ample for lunch time. This consisted of layers of flat bread, filled with bacon, melted cheese and vegetables.

The Babylon is a very casual cafe which is situated round the corner from the main Leederville strip and is, therefore, easier to find parking on the metered roadside.

There is eclectic furniture all around the courtyard area which adds to the atmosphere - second-hand vintage furniture gives it character.

There is quite a large courtyard area with tables and chairs as well as an inside eating area, but on this day it was a beautiful spring day, and we chose to eat outside under an umbrella away from the gorgeous sun!

Everything here is "home made" and made to order (apart from the pancake stacks), and I am sure all this food is very fresh, as well as being "tasty". The kitchen area where food is prepared is clearly visible in this small area, and I always find this a plus when you can see in to where food is actually made, rather than it being separated from the public.

Here is a short video with Simon explaining a few things about :

It has an adorable atmosphere, which is both inviting and comfortable and even though the menu is limited, it is a great place for a casual snack or lunch. You can be sure of friendly, smiling and efficient staff who seem there to "please" the customers! With very reasonable prices, good coffee and amicable staff, this is a must try for those who want good quality food and coffee.
