A couple of Sundays ago on a delightful day I joined my friend David Newton and his group to do a special walk of Manly. As I am a local, I acted as co-pilot as we explored some scenic and well kept secrets in this picturesque paradise.
Our first stop of interest was The Tourist Corporation International College of Management situated on the Eastern Hill in Darley Rd Manly. This building as well as its beauty has a rich history. It was once The Cardinal's Palace. It is a magnificent building with huge grounds which I used to play in as a child.
It was opened by Cardinal Patrick Moran in 1889. Young men lived and trained there to become priests. They had a strict regime to follow, however in their spare time they played football and there was a sports field on the grounds.
I returned after our walk for a more in-depth look around the grounds. At this stage I decided to take a few more photos for viewing as this is a beautiful venue. There are stunning views of the ocean and also residential apartments within the grounds.
You can visit the grounds in daylight hours and attend special functions run by the International College of Tourism and Hotel Management which opened there in1996.
Views from the front of the college are stunning, overlooking the water ways Manly and surrounds.
After leaving the college on our walk we made our way up Darley Rd until we came to Manly Hospital. Here we stopped for a coffee break at their cute little kiosk. There are very affordable light meals and snacks on their menu.
After leaving the hospital cafe we continued up Darley Rd until we came to a bush road on our right. This path is easy walking and leads down to the Police Academy and then on to a delightful bush track.
This track is about a kilometre long and has delightful views over looking the water. The track leads to Collins Flat a very private beach where you can go to avoid crowds. It is a favourite spot for a quiet picnic, also many boats moor there in the summer months.
Finally we reach Collins flat after passing a lovely natural waterhole and descending some steps.
After enjoying Collins flat we made our way to the other side of the beach. Here we ascended up some steps and did another short bush walk to Manly Point Park. We stopped for a rest and took some group photos as this area is just so scenic. If you wish, you can explore Manly Point Park. It is a very interesting park with a rich history. It was the site of the old Manly Gas Works.
After a well earned rest, we walked through the park and down some steps which leads to Little Manly Beach. It is a delightful beach with a great little cafe that serves breakfast and lunch every day and also dinner in the summer months. It is a great place to stop if you are hungry.

On this particular day we did not stop at Little Manly Kiosk but made our way back to Manly to another cafe. On the way, we walked along Addison Rd which is lined with lovely leafy trees. Manly has so much natural beauty and great walks. Do yourself a favour and take the time to explore it. You can start by following the directions of this walk. You will not regret it!
