[ADVERT]I'm new to the world of Laksa.

So new in fact, that the chilli found in most laksas (which most consider mild) still has my nose running almost every time.

However it was not for laksa that I ventured down King Street to BaBa Laksa House, it was for their legendary Hainanese chicken rice.
Hainanese chicken rice is a serving of steamed or fried chicken (here you get a choice of leg or breast) served with a mound of rice, clear broth, cucumbers and a side of garlic chilli sauce. The leg of chicken is more moist and flavoursome but is on the bone, so can be messy to eat. The dryness of the breast can be combated by pouring the broth over both the chicken and the rice. This heightens the flavour. You then can pour the chilli over as well or use it as a dipping sauce. For $11.50, this sits quite cheaply as far as CBD food, but perhaps on the expensive side for Asian fast food.

BaBa Laksa House is located in the Grace Hotel (on King Street close to Clarence Street). You line up and pay at the counter, bistro style, and receive a table number for the waiters to bring out your dishes.

The table area is always busy from 12:30pm on a weekday, and it can be hard to get a table for more than two people. The Grace has a nice decorative high ceiling and there are clean toilets available to use in the hotel lobby (unlike many CBD food courts). It's also a great place to escape for lunch during warmer days as it's air conditioned.

Whilst my favourite is the chicken rice, and I can also endorse the laksa. I've also heard good things about the beef rendang.

This was the first place I discovered Hainanese chicken rice. Does anyone know of any other good places that serve it?
