Don't you just love it when you find a great local restaurant. Some place where you can go and somewhere you can take friends and family on short notice and know that they will be impressed.

On a recent date night with my husband, we discovered a great little Thai restaurant close to home. Thai being one of our favourite cuisine.

Baan Phaya Thai in Scarborough on the Redcliffe Peninsula was our pleasant discovery last Saturday night. Located along the water front in Scarborough, it has ample street parking which enable us to park right outside the front door. Already it was ticking all the boxes.
Neat, tidy and a nice touch of Thai ambiance, made for a warm welcome along with the friendly and very accommodating staff.

The other box to be ticked for us was the food. Let me indulge...

The menu was varied, yet familiar being a Thai restaurant. It had its regular curries, noodles and stir frys, but the real difference is the "Chef's specials". It is these dishes that separates Thai restaurants. We started with the mixed entree as it gives us the chance to sample a variety of entrees.

We thoroughly enjoyed sampling the Thai fish cakes, spring rolls, curry puffs, and pork dumpling. Yummy and a good start to the meal, leaving us waiting in anticipation for the mains.

My husband ordered the green curry with lamb, while I chose the Pad sweet pea with prawns. I must say that the Pad sweet pea was one of the best Thai dishes that we have tasted. Large, juicy, succulent tasty prawns with crisp sweet peas and vegetables. Fresh and tasty, ticking all my boxes.

My husband's green curry was good but I would have probably ordered duck rather than the lamb, but that is a matter of taste. We will have to return to try the duck green curry to compare.

Baan Phaya Thai is BYO wine and also serves alcohol. Our meal was enjoyed with a nice white wine.

Baan Phaya Thai also has take away and home delivery for those who want a night in.

To finish the night we were given a complimentary dish of fresh watermelon which cleansed the palate and was a great way to finish the night. We are happy as we now have another local restaurant to add to our "go to" places.
