There is much fun to be had and many sights to behold at the 43rd annual
Avon Descent returns on
Friday 31st July through to Sunday 2nd August 2015 at various locations in Perth's eastern region.
This annual event encompasses the
Avon Descent Family Fun Days, a handful of events taking place on the weekend of Saturday 1st August and Sunday 2nd August. The Avon Descent passes through some of Western Australia's most beautiful locations, from the farming regions of historic towns through to Australia's oldest wine region. As competitors from all around the world take on 124 kilometres of white water and marathon over two gruelling days, spectators can enjoy the exciting action on the water from a range of riverbank events. Along with race commentary, visitors can participate in free activities and entertainment and lots more in events organised in Northam, Toodyay, Belmont and Bayswater.
Avon River Festival
The Avon Descent is a free and unique event that kicks off with the
Avon River Festival in Northam on
Friday 31st July, at
Bernard Park commencing at 4pm. This is an opportunity for spectators and competitors alike to come together and enjoy a street parade, food stalls, entertainment, markets, children's entertainment, stage shows, rides, sideshow alley, a game zone, live ice sculpting and roving carnival entertainment before finishing with a fireworks finale.
Toodyay International Food Fesival
The festival continues on
Saturday 1st August with the
Toodyay International Food Festival, allowing visitors the chance to spectate day one of the Descent from the river bank. Taking place on the banks of the Avon River at
Stirling Park on Stirling Terrace and Duidgee Park on Harper Road in Toodyay from
10am to 3pm, this food festival celebrates international cuisine with a wide range of delicious food from dozens of stalls, as well as boutique beer and wine offerings. This is in combination with diverse performances on the main stage inspired by cultures from around the globe coupled with free bouncy castles, balloon twisting, face painting and other fun children's activities to ensure the little ones will be entertained. Belmont Family Fun Day
As competitors take on the final stretch of the Descent tackling obstacles and challenges, spectators can attend the
Family Fun Day in Belmont to cheer on and watch the race. Located at
Garvey Park, Ascot between the hours of 11:30am and 3:30pm, a day of food, entertainment, children's activities, live race commentary, helicopter rides, a junior sports expo and a free 94.5 Mix Grill awaits visitors in this family friendly event to be enjoyed by all ages.
Avon Descent Finish Line Family Fun Day
As the weekend and race draw to a close, visitors can join support crews to welcome competitors at the City of Bayswater's
Avon Descent Finish Line Family Fun Day on
Sunday 2nd August. This is a free family day taking place at
Riverside Gardens in Bayswater from
11am to 5pm. The little ones will be entertained by bouncy castles, face painting and other activities whilst everyone can experience live race action and commentary. Enjoy delicious food from a variety of food vendors on site, or pack a picnic and enjoy a day of family entertainment for this final closing event for the Avon Descent.
