Enjoy the great white water race without getting wet
The 41st running of the Avon Descent takes place on the weekend of 2-3 August, with the winter rains contributing to the highest river levels in years. Teams from all over the world compete over two exhausting days of racing 124 kilometres through long stretches of flat water and churning rapids. Meanwhile spectators can enjoy all the excitement from the riverbank with race commentary, free entertainment and much more at the Avon Descent Family Fun Days held in Northam, Toodyay, Guildford, Belmont and Bayswater.
The Fun starts in Northam on the Friday afternoon before the race with the Avon River Festival. Featuring a street parade, food, entertainment, rides, and the biggest firework display in the Avon Valley, this event is sure to start the weekend with a bang.
Moving downriver, Toodyay takes over on Saturday. Delicious food from around the world is the focus at the tenth annual International Food Festival & Family Fun Day but there's also plenty of free entertainment and family activities.

At Fishmarket Reserve in Guildford the City of Swan is sponsoring Power On, with activities and prizes. Come along and cheer for your favourites.
Garvey Park is the scene for the City of Belmont celebrations. Featuring a marquee, a junior sports expo, music from Mix 94.5 and even helicopter rides plus plenty of free activities, this event is sure to have something for everyone.
At last the end is near and the party moves to the Finish Line Fun Day at Riverside Gardens in Bayswater.
