Victoria's silo art phenomenon continues with Avoca creating the first glow-in-the-dark artwork in Australia, and possibly in the world! This new silo art depicts an Australian Barking Owl with glowing green eyes set in a glowing green-and-blue starburst sky. It was painted by Warrnambool artist Jimmi Buscombe using thousands of dollars worth of specially imported glow-in-the-dark paint. Although daunting, the task was successfully completed in April 2022.

The night feature can be experienced any time after dark by pressing the two buttons found on a nearby shed. Doing so turns on the floodlights which will charge the paint for 30 seconds before automatically switching off. You'll then have the following 30 seconds to marvel at the revealed glow, so be sure to get your cameras ready. To see it again, simply repeat the process.

The Australian Barking Owl is native to the local Pyrenees Ranges. During the day, you can examine the nocturnal bird in more detail. It is coloured brown with vertical streaks on its chest. It has yellow eyes and feet. A daytime owl alone wasn't enough to set the township apart. Something else needed to exist alongside, and hence, we now have an artwork that comes alive at night too. There is also a mural on the nearby shed as well as a projection space on the silo.

Avoca is located within the Victorian goldfields region, approximately 70 kilometres northwest of Ballarat and just over two hours drive from Melbourne.
