Last Friday, I went to the Avoca Cellars for the first time. When I walked in I was surprised at the size and style of it, and even more surprised to find that they had a wine tasting room toward the rear. It was in this in this room where I sat down to taste some wines from the McLaren Vale Fox Creek Winery range. The intimate room was partitioned off by glass walls, away from the area where non-wine tasting customers view and purchase drinks. It is set in amongst walls of wine and the table where the wine is tasted has a glass top with Penfolds Grange nestled underneath on display.

My experience was made even more special from the friendly Avoca staff, especially Craigh, who really knows his wines. The wine tasting was conducted by Anthea, a very knowledgeable and friendly woman who made me feel most welcome. The wines included the Shadows Run Shiraz Cabernet Sauvignon and the Duet Cabernet Sauvignon Merlot, both fruity, easy to drink wines. Also included in the tasting was the Vixen, a Sparkling Shiraz Cabernet Sauvignon Cabernet Franc. Normally I don't care much for sparkling red wine, however, this one was impressive and would be a great option for this time of year. Overall, I was very impressed with the ambience of the room and the service provided.

is located in the same vicinity as the Avoca Hotel at 895 South Road, Clarence Gardens, I highly recommend that you pop in for a tasting and hopefully you'll enjoy it as much as I did.
