For over 17 years
Avid Reader has been ensuring that West End locals are well equipped with reading material with the best books in each genre on the shelves. These days it's hard to find a bookstore which isn't a 'bargain basement' sellout of books which didn't quite make the cut. It's a pleasure to step into this dark and inviting store to find new fiction, interesting themed fiction and inspiring biographies.
The staff are super friendly and will be able to assist you to find a book that peaks your interest or to give to your book-worm friend. With themed areas you can browse your favourite genre while the kids make good use of the children's section at the back of the store.
Over the course of the year, Avid Reader holds
events such as book launches, signings, various book clubs and introductory nights for fledgling and established book clubs. These are often packed out and becomes standing room only in the shop. They also support a variety of community groups by offering a space to meet, learn, share, stimulate and discuss ideas.
Once you've bought your new read, there is a fabulous coffee shop in the back of the store serving your favourite brew and a selection of toasted Turkish bread sandwiches, soups, gluten free delights and Byron Bay cookies. In this space is an area for artists to display their work for sale which adds to the artistic atmosphere.
I love Avid Reader for its simplicity in providing a local, small business that has the best books printed. It's a testament to the West End culture that it still endures in this time of eBooks, tablets and smart phones where we can download books at the touch of a button. The people who shop here still get a rush when they turn the first page of their new book and I hope that Avid Reader continues to thrive and grow long into the future.
