In the lush green canopy of the 154 Pin Oaks that line Macedon's Honour Avenue there are already tell-tale signs of yellow and orange foliage. It's the same story all the way up Mount Macedon Road and in the many beautiful gardens to be found throughout the Macedon Ranges . Make no mistake … autumn is upon us.

In this part of the world autumn brings with it a kaleidoscope of yellow, red and orange, creating a magnificent spectacle to be enjoyed by locals and visitors alike. Kids in particular love to run through the leaves, tossing them in the air and showering each other with masses of colour.

It's a little too early to see much at the moment but be sure to plan a trip here during the first half of April and you'll be blown away by the experience.

You'll find the autumn hue everywhere on Mount Macedon and in the surrounding districts. In Macedon there's Honour Avenue and Centennial Park. Further up the mount you've got Days Picnic Ground, Sanatorium Lake and of course the summit and the Memorial Cross.

You can wander through open gardens and discover literally hundreds of botanical species.

Mount Macedon is home to two fantastic gardens both of which are open to the public.

Forest Glade is an historic private garden considered to be one of the most beautiful in Australia. Spread over 6-Hectares the garden is made up of a mixture of landscaping styles that include English, Italian and woodland themes.

Visitors will be amazed by the large English section with huge, exotic trees, the delightful Japanese garden complete with bonsai house, the woodland area with its masses of shade loving plants and the magnificent Maple Walk and fern gullies.

Any time is a great time to visit Forest Glade but autumn in particular sees the garden ablaze with colour.

You'll find Forest Glade Garden at 816 Mount Macedon Road, Mount Macedon.

For further information see the website www.forestgladegardens.com.au or telephone (03) 5426 1323.

The gardens are open daily (Closed on Total Fire Ban Days) from 10 AM with last entry at 4.30 PM.

Cost is $10 per adult with Children under 16, handicapped visitors and their carers FREE. EFTPOS facilities are available. Dogs are permitted on lead.

Tieve Tara dates back to 1854 and was originally known as Christian's Orchard. At just over 3 Hectares the garden comprises two lakes, undulating lawns, a Rose walk and arbour and a Treasure Island play area for the kids.

For further information check out the website www.gardensoftievetara.com.au or telephone 0455 187 868.

Tieve Tara is open daily in autumn and spring between 10AM and 4 PM on weekdays and 10.30 to 5 PM on weekends and public holidays.

Entry is $10 per person with Children 12 and under free.

EFTPOS facilities are available. Dogs are not permitted.

While you're here, why not make the most of your visit? The Macedon Ranges are abuzz with an eclectic mix of pubs, cafés, restaurants, bars, cellar doors, nurseries and art galleries to explore.

There are few places better to relax and enjoy a perfect autumn day than Mount Macedon and the surrounding district.
