With Mid-Autumn Festival just around the corner, lanterns will be all the craze. In addition to the giant lantern decorations at the various festival celebrations around Singapore, kids will be clambering to get their own. Instead of buying them off the shelve, why not grab the whole family and enjoy making lanterns together?
Esteem ART, which provides a platform for adults and children to enjoy arts and craft, will be hosting a lantern making class on 8 September. Organised in association with Laneway Learning, which offers small group evening classes that are cheap, informal and taught by practitioners from the local community, this class is only $28 ($20 plus $8 for materials). The session is located at SPRMRKT, the part self-service bistro, part corner shop that combines food, retail and art in a single space.
Vivienne, a co-owner of Esteem ART, will lead you in the art of making your own modern lantern using coloured and printed paper, pipe cleaners, tassels, glow-stick and a stick. You will receive step-by-step instructions on how to assemble a lantern that is collapsible for future use.
