Watching Auto Bio Queen, currently playing at The Butterfly Cub in Melbourne, I'm left pondering how it is possible for the cast to create the impression of a big stage cabaret show on what is a tiny (maybe 10 square metre) stage? It is no doubt a challenge and takes talent - and that's exactly what you'll find in this outstanding show.

Auto Bio Queen documents the life of Beni Lola - as told by Beni Lola (aka Natasha Jynel). To help her in this 'autobiography meets art' show is an eclectic mix of talent: Karen From Finance, Frankie Valentine, Zelia Rose, Mojo Juju, Hannie Helsden, Mama Alto, Kathleen Gonzalez and Rolly Laughlin.

Why does it take so many performers to tell the story of one person's life, you may ask? Because she's a woman with dreams. She has always wanted to be a drag queen - but women can't be drag queens, right? That is but a minor hiccup on a journey of self-discovery which takes us through various stages and facets of Lola's life, as depicted by this clever cast. Described as 'an honest story of confusion, exploration and acceptance', the themes in Auto Bio Queen are raw and gritty, blurring fantasy with reality. It's no holds barred entertainment.

The show takes us through high camp glamour to striptease to dance, with a lot of lip syncing along the way to a sound track that ensures the momentum is maintained throughout.

There is so much showmanship in this jam-packed one hour cabaret style touching-on-burlesque performance that it's hard to imagine any audience member walking out at the end not feeling dazzled by what they'd seen and sporting a big grin.

Entertainment !
