www.wikipedia.com Goosebumps books are enjoyable and thrilling for kids.

1: R.L Stine
Is is an old author, but back in the 90's he wrote a large amount of horror books for children aged 8-12 called "Goosebumps". The stories weren't full on scary, but they were kid friendly scary. I read a few back in the day as well and found them quite amusing, my eldest son has about 70 of the books and he enjoys reading them. Boys and girls will enjoy reading Goosebumps books. You can buy them through eBay or old book stores like Salvation Army or Vinnies.

2: Roald Dahl
Charlie and the Chocolate Factory, BFG, The Twitches, do any of these ring a bell? Roald Dahl is a lovely imaginative writer and his stories are always so funny and entertaining. My boy's favourite is the BFG, my niece has the Matilda book by him.

3. Morris Gleitzman
Morris is a funny children book writer, he writes such funny and weird stories which make children laugh. They are the best books for children to start reading if they are beginning to read novels. The stories aren't too long and they have a few funny names such as "Bumface", "Blabbermouth", "Gizmo", and "Toad Heaven".

4:Andy Griffiths
This author is sort of like the one mentioned above, he writes funny short stories in one book. Some of his titles include "Just Shocking" "Just Tricking" "Just Stupid" and "The Day My Bum Went Psycho". They are all funny books that children will get a laugh out of, however not too educational in the slightest.

5. Emily Rhoda
She writes lovely fantasy type short novels, great for kids with an imagination. Her books aren't that long and should be able to keep an eight year old occupied, right through to age 10. My boys have started reading Emily's books and so far they like them.
