Common and not-so-common herbs can be purchased
Established in 1991, Australiana Cottage Crafts & Herb Farm can be located at 403 Torbanlea Pialba Road, 4 kilometres from main road to Hervey Bay. A pink metal cow greets drivers at the entrance to the off-road car park. The business is open from 10am to 4pm each day except Wednesday when it is closed. It has been many years since I last visited and it was great to see owner Karen still enjoying what she started as a small project and develop it into a much larger enterprise.

Entry is free and children can easily wander around the gardens to look at the bird aviaries and animal pens. Guinea fowls and sheep wander free around the property and a large enclosure of guinea pigs were eager to come up to the wire as we approached. Signage suggestd to feed the guinea pigs with blades of grass through the wire and they certainly seemed happy that we did that.

Children will delight in feeding the Guinea Pigs on the farm

Recent rains had encouraged strong growth in the herb garden with potted herbs for sale ranging from $4.50 to $15 depending on the rarity of the herb. Although more common named herbs were available, I was interested in Mushroom to add to salads and stews and others with medicinal purposes to assist with colds and sore throats. All herbs are individually labelled stating properties or how to use in food preparation.
