Richard Strauss (11 June 1864 – 8 September 1949) was an outstanding German Romantic composer and remembered for his tone poems. A tone poem or symphonic poem is a piece of orchestral music, usually performed in a single, continuous movement, whose inspiration is sourced from a poem, short story, novel, or other (non-musical) source.
Three of his most famous tone poems will be performed by one of the world's greatest Strauss interpreters, Maestro Zubin Mehta and highly acclaimed Australian World Orchestra (AWO) in Melbourne and
Sydney .
India-born Zubin Mehta is one of the most celebrated and respected conductors with an international career that has spanned more than five decades. Comprising 250 players drawn from over 50 of the world's finest orchestras and ensembles, the AWO is a national orchestra and global representative of
Australia for classical music. The Orchestra has toured India,
Singapore and heading to the United Kingdom in 2022.
You can enjoy two hours of Richard Strauss' masterpieces including 1) Don Juan based on the play "Don Juans Ende", 2) Till Eulenspiegels Lustige Streiche which illustrates Strauss's masterful and sophisticated merging of both rondo and sonata forms, and 3) Ein Heldenleben which showcases Strauss's expressive, compositional voice and virtuoso use of orchestration.
