You may think that woodturning is mostly about bowls and possibly even chair legs. It's not necessarily so. The Australian Woodturning Exhibition running from 17 - 19 June in Nunawading showcases just what amazing things can be done with wood and how it can be fashioned into quite exquisite pieces of art.

The exhibition is the result of an annual competition with categories of ornamental work, miniatures, pens, wood art, identical pairs, functional items, platters, vessels and yes, bowls. Some of the winning pieces from last year's competition are pictured above and below. Woodturners from clubs all over the country compete in different sections: Students (under 18s), Novices, Intermediate and Master Turners. It is expected this year that between 200 and 300 items will be on display at the exhibition and many of the pieces will be for sale.

The exhibition is run entirely by volunteers passionate about promoting the art and skills of woodturning and encouraging anyone who may be interested to become involved in woodturning and help to preserve and maintain these skills into the future. Woodturning is an art that can be learnt by anyone with an interest and this is evidenced in the pieces that will be on display at the exhibition which have been fashioned by male and female woodturners from all different age groups and skill levels.

The exhibition is a not for profit event to be held at the Waratah Room, Whitehorse Centre, Rear Council Chambers, 397 Whitehorse Road, Nunawading on the following dates:

**Friday 17th June – 10am to 6pm
Saturday 18th June – 10am to 5pm
Sunday 19th June – 10am to 4pm**

The venue is wheelchair accessible.

This is an outstanding display of wood art that hobbyists, craft, wood and art enthusiasts will appreciate and which can also be enjoyed by anyone with an interest in beautifully crafted handmade items.
