You either love them or you don't, however, many more people are today embracing the art of the "body ink – the tattoo" as it is making a strong comeback.
The word "tattoo" comes from the Tahitian "tatu", which means to mark something. It is claimed that tattooing has existed for aeons, going back to 12,000 BC and the purpose being varied in specific cultures role of importance, ritual and tradition. Secret societies, clans and even bikie gang members use symbols to depict their status or indicate membership. Long ago it was believed that if a wearer wore a specific tattoo, for example, a tiger, then that person would take on the characteristics of the tiger.
